DBT-Informed Skills Group
The goal of DBT work is to learn skills about changing behaviors and managing distressing emotions, so that one can increase effective responses and become more balanced. The DBT-Informed Skills Group can benefit people who may experience or engage in the following: impulsive and/or ineffective behaviors; intense, quick-changing emotional states; difficulty managing their private thoughts; tumultuous interpersonal relationships. Group members can learn skills to increase quality of life, communication skills, boundaries, and frustration-tolerance. The group teaches skills of Core Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. This DBT-Informed Skills Group is open to all genders 18+ who are motivated to work on tolerating painful emotions, decreasing ineffective behavioral responses, and enhancing their relationships. The DBT-Informed Skills Group can enhance a client’s individual work or serve as a stand-alone skills group. Clients will be asked to participate in a one-time intake assessment and DBT orientation with the group facilitator prior to joining the group to determine goodness of fit.
What is DBT?
Based on Marsha Linehan’s Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) model, DBT helps people to learn how to decrease challenging thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that contribute to distressing problems. The focus is to create a meaningful life by following values and commitments in one’s life that increase effective behavioral responses and create balance. The term “dialect” means bringing two seemingly opposing truths together as one–that is, synthesizing acceptance and change as an avenue to allow for greater balance. Extensive research has shown DBT to be effective for a variety of psychological disorders including but not limited to the following: anxiety disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders, eating disorders, OCD, self-harm, chronic difficulties in relationships, substance use, trauma, and anger.
Date/Time: Wednesday, 6:00pm-7:00pm (new clients must complete an intake before joining group)
Cost: Insurance accepted for group therapy or out of pocket cost $85
